Now decide if you want a Sativa, Indica or Hybrid strain

There are two main types of cannabis: sativa and indica – or a hybrid that contains a combination of both.

SATIVA

  • Energetic, uplifting and cerebral effects
  • Good choice if you need to medicate during the day and stay alert
  • Provide pain relieving effects without making you tired
  • For some, sativa strains may produce anxiety and may not be an effective treatment

INDICA

  • Sedating, calming and bodily relaxation effects
  • Good choice for those with strong chronic pain and insomnia
  • Pain relieving properties are felt more directly in the body
  • For some, indica strains may produce tiredness and would not be recommended for daytime use

HYBRIDS

  • Crossbred with various combinations of indica and sativa plants
  • There are even hybrids with a 50% sativa/50% indica – or a sativa dominant or indica dominant strains
  • Hybrids combine the effects of the two varieties
  • For example, a sativa dominant hybrid might be uplifting and give a patient good focus, but still retain strong body relaxation effects like an indica
  • Almost all common varieties of cannabis are a hybrid of some sort

distinction between medicine types

There are two main types of cannabis: sativa and indica. They have distinctive differences in their effects.

SATIVA

Sativas generally produce more energetic, uplifting, and cerebral effects. They are a good choice if you need to medicate during the day and stay alert. They provide pain relieving effects without making you tired. For some people however, they can produce anxiety and may not be an effective treatment for those patients.

INDICA

Indicas generally produce more sedating, calming, and bodily relaxation effects. They are a good choice for those with strong chronic pain and insomnia. The pain relieving properties are felt more directly in the body. For some patients, Indicas can make them feel lazy and would not be recommended for day time use.

HYBRIDS

Hybrids are cannabis plants that have been cross bred with various combinations of indica, sativa, or other types of cannabis. You could have an even 50% sativa/50% indica hybrid, or you could have plants that are sativa dominant or indica dominant. These hybrids combine effects between the two varieties.
